Self-employed health insurance in Florida
Freelancers, contractors, and 1099 workers can talk with the Sunrise office about a plan that is not tied to one employer. The ZIP code still decides which products exist.
Do not skip the timing
Becoming self-employed and losing a job’s health plan are not the same event. If the job plan is ending, you may have a Special Enrollment Period. If you already left and still have other coverage, or you missed the window, a new business name does not create one. The guide becoming self-employed keeps those facts apart, and losing employer coverage covers COBRA.
What the firm can look at with you
- Marketplace plans when you are allowed to enroll, including whether income-based savings might be in play. No calculator on this site.
- Private plans outside the Marketplace where a carrier actually offers them.
- A spouse’s employer plan, if that comparison is the honest one.
- Dental and vision only after the medical plan is clear.
The tax line, carefully
Some self-employed people can deduct premiums. The IRS form is 7206, and the conditions are specific. This page is not tax advice and does not say the deduction is automatic or total. Take it to a tax professional. The longer note is in the self-employed guide.
If you have employees
A solo 1099 practice and a small company with a payroll are different. Group coverage is the small-business page. This site does not guess which one you qualify for.
For a household plan, read individual health insurance in South Florida. The office overview is on the Sunrise homepage.
